DIMAPUR — The Kohima district administration, in collaboration with SANKALP – District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, is set to launch an intensive enrolment drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a maternity benefit scheme aimed at supporting pregnant women and lactating mothers.
According to a DIPR report, the PMMVY provides financial assistance to improve the health and nutrition of mothers and their children. Under the scheme, a cash incentive of INR 5,000 is offered for the first birth, irrespective of the gender of the child.
An additional incentive of INR 6,000 is provided for the second birth if it is a girl child. The financial assistance is directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The scheme applies to all scheduled tribe (ST) women, except those in regular government service.
To ensure wider access and ease of enrolment, on-the-spot Aadhaar enrolment and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) account opening services will also be made available at each location of the enrolment drive.
The PMMVY enrolment drive will take place as per the following schedule: Kezocha Block at Council Hall, Kezoma village, on July 21, from 10 am onwards; Jakhama Block at Panchayat Hall, Viswema village, on July 22, from 10 am onwards; and Chiephobozou Block at CDPO Office, Chiephobozou town, on July 25, from 10 am onwards.
The district administration has urged all village councils to disseminate the information widely and mobilise all eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers to participate in the drive with the required documents.
