DIMAPUR — Nagaland will see a significant boost to its power infrastructure, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced on Sunday.
The department of Power has finalised a comprehensive transmission plan with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Union Ministry of Power to establish a robust and reliable transmission system and to meet Nagaland’s projected load demand of 360 megawatts by 2030, Rio said in his Statehood Day address.
This announcement comes as a significant response to Nagaland’s persistent power challenges. Nagaland currently has a total installed capacity of 228 MW, with only 26 MW generated within the state.
The project includes the construction of nine 132/33 kV substations, with a combined transformation capacity of 510 megavolt amperes (MVA).
Funding of INR 667.27 crore has been secured under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). This scheme is designed to reduce Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses below 15%, improve operational efficiency, and bridge the gap between the average cost of supply and average revenue realised, Rio said.
Also, to increase generation capacity, the department has completed surveys and investigations for the Lower Doyang Hydroelectric Project (HEP) in Wokha district. This 18 MW project will complement the existing 75 MW Doyang HEP.
Further bolstering renewable energy sources, the department of New and Renewable Energy has completed the Noroi Stage-1 project, adding 2 x 75 kW of capacity in Punglwa village, the chief minister informed.
