Dimapur, June 8
Mokokchung district is facing problems in shifting the Nagaland State Transport buses of the district to the inter-state bus terminal near Khensa village. The hindrance is due to lack of water and power facilities and supply. The issue was one of the main concerns raised during a recent meeting of the district’s development board.
The monthly meeting of the Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was conducted on June 8. The meeting was held in the conference hall of the additional deputy commissioner of Planning. The deputy commissioner of the district, Sushil Kumar Patel, presided over the meeting.
Patel, also the vice chairman of the Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board, informed the members of the board about shifting buses of the Nagaland State Transport from the present station in the heart of the Mokokchung town to the inter-state bus terminal near Khensa village. He said that activities to shift the station are being hampered by the lack of water supply and electricity facilities at the inter-state bus terminal. The deputy commissioner inquired from the ‘line departments’ whether infrastructure for the two important facilities could be put in place within a good time. He urged them to inform him the administration about the progress of the work.
The board also undertook a brief discussion about the minutes of the previous agenda taken up by the board during a previous meeting. The board’s vice chairman has sought details about the status of deployment of teachers in various government schools in Mokokchung district. Patel has directed the district education officer to submit a report.
During the meeting, District Agriculture Officer, Nungsangkaba, and Executive Engineer for Roads & Bridges, PI Imnu Ao, were introduced to the members of the board. The officials were transferred recently to Mokokchung district.
In other matter, posters containing information about earthquakes, and carrying a strong slogan “Earthquakes do not Kill: Unsafe Buildings do,” were distributed to all the members of the board. The district publicity officer spoke to the officials about ‘impending and inevitable danger’ earthquakes posed to infrastructure. He has requested the members to paste the posters on the walls of their offices ‘where all the visitors could easily notice the information’ stated on them.
Also, the board members were informed about a road blockade imposed between Zero Point in Mariani and new Sonawal along the Mariani-Mokokchung road from June 8 by some organizations. The blockade was imposed in protest against what the protesters claimed was Border Roads Organization’s ‘lackadaisical attitude towards repairing the deplorable road condition’ of the state areas.
However, the road blockade was reportedly lifted temporarily following assurance to undertake repairing works along the stated sector.
