For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1st Corinthians 1: 18

The scripture says that the power of God is the Word. In the gospel of John we read that the Word was there in the beginning and that the word was with God and that He was God. The mystery of the gospel has baffled intellectuals and the foolish lovers of the world. But for us who are now new creations in Christ, it is the power of God. (Colossians 1:26) In the past while we had been slaves to sin, we considered the cross as a symbol of death and punishment. The truth is that it was but it became a symbol of power and authority on the day of the crucifixion of Christ. We would have died and perished as sinners but we are saved because Christ conquered death through His death on the cross. This very act of sacrifice altered the whole course of history. Before we were saved, we indulged in sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed and all the vices which were offensive to God. Our sins were so great that we killed to steal and we murdered to gain. We became fornicators and adulterers because of our lust for pleasure and sin. Many innocent sinners were defiled by the experienced sinners. The way of the world threatened the salvation of the world. Obscene words were uttered and orgies were endorsed. We coveted our neighbor’s wife and properties. We sowed the seeds of discord and envy in the minds of our friends. But inspite of all these sins, grace still prevailed and many repented of their sins and became children of God. This is the confidence that we now have in Christ. “Once we become new creations in Christ, the power of God starts manifesting itself into our lives. This is further evidenced in the scripture which states “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumsision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. (Colossians 2:13-15) The nature of the Word is all about grace, forgiveness and mercy. Even while we had been dead in our sins God made us alive in Christ. He bore the pain that we may not suffer the torments of hell. The injustice that was meted out to Him turned out to be a blessing to us. The cross which was once a symbol of death became a symbol of life because of the sacrifice of Christ. The powers of darkness can now be conquered with it. When Christ was crucified, Lucifer grieved because it signified his condemnation. This was what the cross did to the father of lies. We are now empowered to stand up and face the elements that are against us. if we know our rights and authority we shall be victorious. The power of the cross can be manifested unto us if we believe. This is the truth of God’s Word and it will never fail. Receive it and claim victory over the evil forces. God is here for us. The Church of Christ fights the war. And we will win the war through Christ and through the power of the cross.
