- DIMAPUR — The Poumai Naga Naotumai Me Dimapur (Poumai Naga
Women Union) celebrated its 25th Anniversary under the theme “Growing Together
in Unity” at the Poumai Baptist Church, Dimapur, on Tuesday.
- Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Amongla Ashiho
Asoumai, an entrepreneur, stated that women play a pivotal role in the growth
of children, families, and society.

- She emphasised the importance of preserving and
learning one's native language, noting that it is crucial for effective communication,
social connections, building relationships, and fostering a sense of community
and identity.
- Amongla, who is from the Ao Naga tribe, shared that
she learned Poula (the Poumai language) within six months of marriage to a
Poumai and encouraged the gathering to learn their husbands' language,
highlighting its many advantages.

- Guest of Honour Caroline Kezo, Deputy Manager, SBI,
Dimapur, shared how Poumai women have significantly contributed to societal
growth, particularly in education. She mentioned that the first Naga woman
pilot is from the community, alongside many other successful individuals,
including a DIG in the Indian paramilitary force.
- ‘I would like to encourage our Poumai women to be
role models in the family and society,’ she said.
- She also highlighted the importance of preserving
one’s culture and staying updated with developments around us, including
government welfare programmes and health schemes that can positively impact
one's life.
- Earlier in the programme, Rone Troio, President of
Poumai Naga Naotumai Me Dimapur, welcomed the guests and members of the union
who braved the humid weather to attend the event, besides expressing the need
for unity which is encapsulated in the theme of the event.

Naga Hoho Dimapur, Poumai Naga Tsüdoumai Me Dimapur, and Poumai Naga Naotumai
Me Kohima also spoke at the event, while Lunürou Sounü, Secretary of the Silver
Jubilee Committee, led the introduction, and V. Lydia Pukhomai, Convener of the
Silver Jubilee Committee, delivered the vote of thanks.
