Poumai bodies extend support to fire victims of Lower Koide
Poumai Naga Union including Poumai Naotumai Me and Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me visited Lower Koide to express solidarity with the family of Th. Danii, whose house was completely gutted in a devastating fire
- DIMAPUR — A
delegation from the Poumai Naga Union (PNU) led by its president, RB Pani, and
accompanied by officials from PNU’s frontal organisations including Poumai
Naotumai Me (PNM) and Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM) visited Lower Koide
Village on Wednesday to express solidarity with the family of Th. Danii, whose
house was completely gutted in a devastating fire in the early hours of
February 3.
- The fire, which broke out at approximately 1:30 am, reduced
the family’s home and all their belongings to ashes causing an estimated loss
of property worth around INR 60 lakh. The cause of the fire remained unknown
and the family was unable to salvage anything as the incident occurred during
the night when the villagers were asleep.
- An update from PNU stated that the family’s youngest son, D
Rahavei, a Class 10 student at Naga Public School, succumbed to injuries
sustained during the incident.
- PNU president has described the situation as
"heart-wrenching and unimaginable," stating, "Nothing hurts me
more than this incident, which has not only destroyed the family’s life savings
and endeavours but has also taken the precious life of a young, bright soul.”
- It stated that officials also prayed for the speedy recovery
of Serou, wife of Th. Danii, who displayed immense courage during the tragedy.
Despite being badly injured and burnt, Serou bravely attempted to save her son,
Rahavei, by breaking through the flames.
- PNU vice president, Ng Joseph, has urged the community to
come together in prayer and support for the bereaved family. He also emphasised
the need for collective efforts to prevent such tragedies in the future.
- PNM president, Delilah Pao, also expressed profound grief
over the incident saying, "As a mother, I can feel the pain and anguish of
the family. It is heartbreaking to see their home reduced to ashes and to
witness the loss of a young life."
- Meanwhile, the officials commended the swift response of the
deputy commissioner of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, and SDO/BDO of Purul, S Lunguiba
Thangal, who have assured the family of all possible support. The officials
also expressed gratitude to Elizabeth Dziizii, vice president of Senapati
District Women Association (SDWA), for accompanying the delegation and showing
their solidarity and support.
- It stated that PNU and its frontal organisations have
pledged to extend all necessary help to the affected family as they rebuild
their lives. The officials further called upon the community to unite in
providing emotional, financial and material support to the family during the
challenging time.
