
DIMAPUR — As part of the celebration of Poshan Pakhwada, a local food show and cooking competition was held at Sematilla council hall on Friday.
In the cooking competition, Lhomithi Anganwadi won the first prize (Millet with butter) while the second position went to Xuvihe Anganwadi (Perila with mushroom). The winners were given cash prizes and citations, while all the other participants were also acknowledged with citations, a DIPR report stated.
The panel of judges for the cooking competition included Lolano Patton, DPRO; Yimok Phom, ADPMC (RD-NSRLM) and area coordinator, NSRLM, Medosenu.
Earlier in the programme, Yimok Phom highlighted on tribal, traditional, regional and local dietary practices and stressed on the need to promote nutrition through the diverse locally available nutritional sources.
Northeast cuisines are very rich in protein and essential nutrients and can be promoted by healthier eating habits. She also said local cuisines will boost local economy.
Supervisor Kalivi who chaired the programme, in her brief note, informed that Poshan Pakhwada is celebrated in the month of March for 15 days every year, to address multifaceted challenges related to nutrition and health. She also informed that Poshan Pakhwada aims to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and to promote healthy eating habits.
The programme was organised under the aegis of CDPO office Dimapur (Urban).
