- DIMAPUR — The Special Judge, POCSO, Phek, on
Tuesday sentenced one Zhopa Keyho to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for commission
of rape and penetrative sexual assault of a minor girl child (12-13 years) with
physical disability.
- The offence was reportedly committed on September 28, 2023,
in the house of the victim when she was alone at home.
- In a judgement and order, the Special Judge Mezivolu T
Therieh stated that the evidence of the victim corroborated with the medical
expert opinion, the forensic results, the confessional statements of the
accused and other circumstantial evidences leading to the conviction and sentence
of the accused under section 376(1) and Section 4 of the POCSO Act.
- It was ordered that the accused shall serve in jail 20 years
rigorous imprisonment for committing rape and penetrative sexual assault and
three years rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault.
- The jail sentences shall run concurrently and out of the
total fine amount of INR. 5,500 deposited by the accused, INR 5,000 is to be
immediately paid to the victim to meet the medical expenses and rehabilitation.
- The court also directed the state government to release an
amount of INR 5 lakh to be paid to the victim as compensation within 30 days
from the date of receipt of the judgment.
