Dimapur, Sep. 6 (EMN): Porbami Farmers’ Union (PFU) organised a farmer’s day on September 6 at the panchayat hall in Porba village with the Joint Director of Agriculture, K Remphamo Lotha, as the guest speaker.
K Remphamo Lotha, in his short speech, encouraged the farmers to take up organic cultivation practices for better health and higher income generation. He also urged the farming community to access the facilities provided by the department.
Vevo Dzudo, PFU chairman, delivered the welcome address, while a folk tune was performed by the Porba cultural society.
Senti Longchar, Horticulture Officer, Pfutsero, greeted the gathering and also expressed happiness for organising the farmers day. Informing that the facility for cardamom drying is available with the department, he urged the farmers to avail the facility.
Vebi Chiero, PFU secretary, presented the annual report on the activities undertaken in the village and the benefit reaped from it. He also expressed his happiness for providing support to the farmers by different government departments, NGOs and other financial institutions.
To encourage the farmers, awards to the best three farmers were also given during the programme. An exhibition-cum-sale was also displayed in the venue.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Kevecuyi Tureng, Proba VDB secretary and the programme concluded with a prayer by Razuveyi Dzudo.
Officials from Horticulture Research Farm, Pfutsero; SBI, Pfutsero; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek; SDAO, Pfutsero; ATMA Phek; NSRLM, Phek; and NGOs attended the programme.
