Deputy CM Y Patton, MP Supongmeren Jamir, Mon legislators and the NPF express grief over the Mon landslide tragedy and assure relief, rehabilitation and support for affected families.
DIMAPUR — Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir, the nine legislators from Mon district, and the Naga People's Front (NPF) have expressed profound grief over the devastating landslide and flood incidents in Mon district that claimed lives and caused widespread destruction.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.
He said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, is closely monitoring the situation across the affected areas to ensure timely intervention and assistance.
Patton stated that various government agencies, security forces, and local communities are actively engaged in search and rescue operations.
He assured that the government would provide immediate ex gratia assistance to the families of the deceased and extend relief to all those affected.
Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir also expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and courage for them during this difficult time. He wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
In view of the ongoing monsoon season, Jamir appealed to the people of Nagaland to remain vigilant, avoid landslide-prone areas wherever possible, and strictly adhere to safety advisories issued by the authorities.
He urged the Government of Nagaland to ensure adequate compensation and comprehensive relief measures for the affected families without delay, stressing that timely assistance is crucial for their recovery and rehabilitation.
Jamir also expressed concern over the flood situation in Tuli under Mokokchung district, where rising floodwaters have caused severe hardship.
He appealed to the authorities to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts while urging the people of Tuli to remain united and support one another during the crisis.
Meanwhile, the nine Members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Mon district, in a statement issued through Advisor for Geology & Mining and DUDA, W Chingang Konyak, said the disaster had claimed many lives, left many others injured, destroyed numerous houses and rendered more than ten families homeless.
The legislators also extended their sympathies to families affected by floods in Tizit village, Tizit town, Lapa Lampong and Naganimora, as well as those impacted by landslides in Wakching Chingla and JNV Wakching.
Reaffirming their solidarity with all affected families, they assured continued coordination with the state government and concerned agencies to ensure timely relief, rehabilitation and assistance.
They also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, the safe recovery of those still missing, and strength and hope for all those affected by the calamity.
The Naga People's Front (NPF) also expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by flash floods and landslides across Nagaland following incessant rainfall.
The party conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, particularly those in Mon district, and expressed concern for those reported missing or trapped.
It also extended solidarity to hundreds of families in Tuli, Mokokchung district, where homes, schools, churches, health facilities and other public infrastructure have suffered extensive damage.
Describing the disaster as a stark reminder of Nagaland's vulnerability to extreme weather events, the NPF appreciated the efforts of the district administrations, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Police, Fire and Emergency Services, medical personnel, churches, civil society organisations and volunteers for their tireless rescue and relief operations.
The party appealed to the public to follow official advisories, avoid flood- and landslide-prone areas, and cooperate with rescue teams until the situation returns to normal.
