Mokokchung, March 27 (EMN): Mokokchung Superintendent of Police Raguramarajan A has informed that his team has established communication with the NPP candidate for 26 Aonglenden A/C by-election right after the party (NPP) filed an FIR at Mokokchung police station –I on Wednesday.
“Our Team has established communication with the NPP Candidate O Tinu Lkr right after the NPP Mokokchung President has filed the FIR. The candidate assured that he is safe and sound and denied his abduction,” SP Mokokchung informed.
He also added that the NPP candidate was in Kohima when his team last established communication with him and has assured to give a press statement on March 28.
NPP president Mokokchung district I Bendang Jamir on Wednesday filed an FIR, stating that the party’s candidate for 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency by-election, O Tinu Lkr had gone missing since March 26 and that “he might have been abducted.”
Ricky Ozukum, NPP Nagaland general secretary informed that they have no clue of their candidate’s whereabouts, and therefore NPP Mokokchung district president filed an FIR besides the party having written a letter to CEO in this matter.
The information and public relations secretary of NPP (State unit) told Eastern Mirror that “it is apparent that it (missing incident) is a foul play considering the magnitude of the elections and Longkumer being one of the top contenders for the by elections,” adding that there will be “forces to hamper” the elections.
On rumours that the NPP candidate had withdrawn his candidature, Ozukum said that the party could not comment on the matter as they could not establish communication with their candidate.
Thursday is the last day for withdrawal of nomination.
Attempts to contact the candidate by this correspondent proved futile.
It may be mentioned that two NPP MLAs — Imnatiba and L Khumo Khiamniungan — quit the party and joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) over the party leadership’s decision to field its own candidates for the by-election to the 26 Aonglenden constituency after the PDA announced its consensus candidate for the constituency.
