Kohima police have in custody a person, and a carrier and a motorbike on Wednesday after their vehicles were found to be without legal documentation. The motorbike was left on the scene by another person who fled after seeing the police, the Kohima police informed in a press release issued through the media on Wednesday.
A combined team of personnel from the anti-vehicle theft squad, DIB and mobile units of the District Executive Force of Kohima undertook routine check of vehicles at the Old Bye-Pass area in Kohima on April 26.
During the enforcement activity, the personnel detained a taxi, a Tata Sumo bearing the registration number NL 01T 5339, chassis number 421055GZZ915727, engine number 497SP6GZZ748648; a motorcycle (Bajaj Discover 100 CC) bearing the registration number AS01BA0748, chassis number MD2DSFAZZTPD78059, and engine number JBUBTD20833.
On verification of the Tata Sumo, the chassis and engine number engraved in the vehicle and smart card (RC book) did not tally, the police said.
The driver of the vehicle identified as one J Dominic, a 21 year old, from Senapati of Manipur was arrested was arrested following the detecting.
“While the checking of vehicles was in progress, a bike rider proceeding towards the check point, on spotting the police team, escaped leaving behind the bike. On proper verification, the registration number and chassis and engine numbers did not tally with the one engraved in the bike. Accordingly, the bike was seized and a case registered for further investigation,” the police added.
