DEPUTY Inspector General of Police (Range/NAP), Liremo Lotha while expressing that police department is the most visible organs of governance today called upon the police personnel to be sincere and uphold the human rights and social justice while discharging their duties.
Speaking as the chief guest of the Kohima Range Level debate competition on the topic “Human Rights and Social Justice are devalued in Naga society” at SP Office Conference Hall here, Lotha said the topic is closely related with the police department and police personnel are the most visible organs of governance.
He said that in the past the job of police used to be curbing anti-social activities, nabbing criminals and investigating crime, but in the present day society, police personnel have to ensure dignity of life to the citizens and the onus of upholding the human rights and social justice lies on the personnel while discharging their duties.
Altogether 13 participants from four districts - Kohima, Phek, Wokha and Zunheboto participated for and against the motion.
Assistant Commandant Seyiesezo Peseyie of Kohima speaking for the motion and UBSI Athiubo Zeliang from Wokha against the motion were adjudged joint first place winners while the second place was bagged by UBSI Hinoto from Zunheboto (against the motion). The winners will be representing Kohima Range in the upcoming State level debate competition.
The debate was held under the aegis of DIG (Range/NAP) with SP (Narcotics) Jatila, Public Prosecutor Kohima Akum Jamir and journalist Narayan Bahadur as judges.
