DIMAPUR — The 33rd general conference of the Pochury Women Organisation Kohima (PWOK) was held at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on the theme ‘Threads of time,’ on October 25.

The event brought together women from diverse walks of life to celebrate their shared heritage, achievements, and vision for the future, an update stated.

The first session of the conference was attended by Joy Thusi Fithu, Commandant of the 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Battalion, as the special guest, while the second session featured Chievithsii Nyuthe, Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes, as the guest of honour.

In her address, Joy Thusi Fithu expressed joy at being “back with my Pochury people,” calling it a homecoming filled with nostalgia and pride.

She reflected on the evolution of Pochury women, stating, “We have come a long way, and along with the rest of Naga society, we have confidently stepped into the 21st century. We are second to none.”

Fithu drew parallels between the conference theme and the unbroken thread of time, which weaves together the past, present, and future through shared experiences, choices, and relationships.

She urged women to cultivate qualities of discipline, sincerity, commitment, and compassion, and to lead their society with unity and vision.

Encouraging women to step beyond their comfort zones, she reminded the gathering that “The most expensive thing in the world is our comfort zone.”

She also emphasised the importance of maintaining cultural identity while embracing progress, urging Pochury women to be “torchbearers and trendsetters” for the community in Kohima.

Fithu concluded her speech with an appeal for unity and forgiveness.

The second session of the conference featured a role play on cultural folk tales and traditional practices, chaired by Sierhetsii Phoji, vice president of PWOK.

The event also witnessed the installation of new office bearers, with brief speeches from the outgoing president and the president-elect. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vitoli Nyusou.
