The 5th edition of Pochury Black Day Memorial Cup will conclude Tuesday with Mmhonlumo Kikon, Parliamentary Secretary for Labour, Employment and Skill Development, Border Affairs, as the chief guest for the closing function.
The United Brothers will take on Wieküzü in the final match tomorrow at Meluri Local Ground. In the semi final, the favorite contenders United Brothers convincingly defeated Khumiasü FC by 9 -0, while they hammered Legacy by 7-2 in the quarters. As for Wieküzü, they had a narrow win against local favorites Christian Mission School, Meluri by 1-0 in the semifinal, and in the quarters, they beat Bright Bro’s Club by 3-2.A total of 12 teams from all Pochury ranges took part in this year’s tournament which commenced on September 7 with Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire as the chief guest for the opening function.
The champions will fetch a cash award of Rs. 50,000, while the runners-up will be given Rs. 30,000. The two losing semifinalists will also receive a cash award of Rs. 10,000 each. Individual prizes have also been arranged for categories such as - Player of the tournament, highest scorer, best defender, best goalkeeper and most promising player.
The Pochury Black Day Memorial Cup is organized by the Pochury Students’ Union with the vision to preserve, protect and promote the unique identity of the Pochury tribe and further to spread the importance of the history (through sports) which the forefathers had sacrificed and laid down their precious lives for the cause of Naga nation.
The PSU also organize this cup to transform Football within its locality by creating a platform and opportunity to the youth to develop their talents and skills in sports.
