
Dimapur, June 21 (EMN): The Poumai Naga Covid Task Force (PNCTF) has extended support to the medical fraternity by donating Covid essentials including power backup to five primary health centres in Poumai Naga area on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, the convenor of PNCTF, J Joyti informed that the task force was formed in a joint meeting of Poumai Naga Union (PNU), Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM) and the Poumai Naga Students Union (PNTM) with a vision to improve the function of the health centres in its jurisdiction
The convenor stated that to ensure readiness to combat the second wave of the pandemic, the team sought donations from other individuals, organisations, churches, villages and subordinates of the PNTM after finding out the shortages in the basic requirements and infrastructures after inspecting the centres in the region.
He expressed gratitude to all individuals who had contributed and particularly mentioned the donations made by J Maivio Woba, social worker for giving five oxygen concentrators, PPE kits, hygiene kits, N95 face masks and cash towards the cause.
The president of Naga People's Organisation, Solomon Arow congratulated the task force for the arrangements made and urged all concerned to give importance for proper functioning of the health centres in the region.
Expressing amazement for the contributions to the healthcare centres, the additional district magistrate of Senapati, Adahrü Maheo stated that such equipment could boost for effective functioning of the health centres and sought cooperation to fight against the pandemic by following all the SOPs.
Also speaking at the programme, Dr. Pfokreho Pfoze, the CMO of Senapati informed that there 55 positive cases at present with 51 patients on home isolation scheduled for 17 days.
Mentioning that 'there is possibility of a third wave within two to three months and 'the variant of the virus keeps changing every 11 days,' he urged for maintaining the SOPs.
Stating that, 'the second weapon to contain the spread of the virus is to vaccinate with Covishield. Unless 60-70% of the total population are vaccinated, one cannot develop herd immunity. The seriousness of the disease can be prevented with a higher rate of vaccination," he urged the task force for spreading the message.
The CMO further expressed gratitude for the concern that the Poumai frontal organisations have for people of the region by stepping forward in the form of valuable gifts, and requested all the medical staff to be vigilant and be stationed in their own posting during this hard time.
The president of PNU, D Dailord Pao, on behalf of the Covid Task Force expressed 'gratitude to all contributors--individuals, villages, societies, churches for making the mission a success'. The programme was attended by ADM Senapati, CMO Senapati, Medical Officers of the five PHCs in Poumai Naga areas, officials of Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati District Woman Association (SDWA), All Tribal Students Association Manipur (ATSUM), Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), Poumai Naga Union (PNU), Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM), Poumai Naga Students Union (PNTM), senior leaders and well wishers.
