To popularize Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), the Lead Bank Office of Kohima organized a program called the “Mudra Loan Mega Campaign” at The Heritage, in Kohima town on September 28.
Lithrongla Tongpi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kohima district was the chief guest of the event. The PMMY was launched on April 8, 2015 by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi with the objective to providing finance to non-farm enterprises engaged in manufacturing, trading and service sectors under three sub-categories as Shishu, Kishor and Tarun depending on the loan value. Tongpi, in her inaugural speech, expressed happiness that the event would further popularize the scheme and facilitate better banker-borrower interaction. She called upon the entrepreneurs requiring small business finance to approach banks under the scheme and ‘work with diligence including timely repayment of loans. Smt. Tongpi also requested the Bankers to guide and extend all the necessary support to potential and existing entrepreneurs to make the scheme a success.’
During the program, 102 Loan Sanctioned Letters issued by eight banks amounting to Rs. 50.30 lakh were handed over to PMMY beneficiaries.
Also addressing the event, the manager of the Small Industries Development Bank of India, S Pauminthang Gangte, highlighted the background, objective and rationale of PMMY under which priority would be given to Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs in order to increase their access to credit from the formal financial sector. This will bridge the gap and go a long way in “funding the unfunded”, he said.
