PM Shri GPS Yangphi celebrates cultural day

  • KIPHIRE — PM Shri Government High School, Yangphi, celebrated its cultural day with great enthusiasm on Wednesday at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall in Kiphire town in the presence of SMDC members, teachers and students.

  • The programme began with an invocation prayer said by T Chohose Sangtam, followed by a keynote address delivered by Lipiri Sangtam, assistant headmaster of PM Shri GHS, Yangphi, who also highlighted the significance of the cultural activities.

  • A series of cultural activities showcasing the rich heritage of the region were performed by the students. Students presented traditional folk songs from various tribes including Sangtam, Sumi, Yimkhuing and Tikhir.

  • The cultural activities also included competitions in individual events such as war cry, bamboo gun firing (known as "phoh-phoh-ù" in Sangtam), five stones and rice winnowing. Many students actively participated in those events, demonstrating their talents and skills.

  • The Tikhir tribe emerged as the winner in the group folk song category, while the Yimkhuing tribe secured second position.

  • Speaking on the occasion, Lutoli, SMDC member, urged the students to study hard and strive for excellence. She also promised to give a cash prize of INR 10,000 to any student who secured first position in the HSLC exam in 2026.

  • The programme was attended by Lichumse, Sangtam, ADC of district mission authority, and Cholimong, project assistant.

  • The programme concluded with a thanksgiving prayer by Mughasheli.

  • The celebration was a testament to the school's commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
