DIMAPUR — Minister for PHED and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, on Friday unveiled the plaque marking the upgrade of PM SHRI Government Middle School (GMS), Pihekhu, to PM SHRI Government High School (GHS), Pihekhu, in Niuland district.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Zhimomi said the PM SHRI Schools initiative was launched to transform schools into centres of excellence and contribute towards making India a global educational hub, according to a DIPR report.
The minister urged public leaders and officials of the Education department to make optimum use of the opportunity to strengthen educational institutions in the area.
Emphasising the role of parents, he said the greatest gift they could give their children was quality education and encouraged village authorities and community leaders to enrol their children in government schools, asserting that some of the best-qualified and well-trained teachers serve in government institutions.
Zhimomi also appealed to village authorities, public leaders and School Management Committees (SMCs) not to issue no-objection certificates (NOCs) that facilitate teachers’ transfers to urban and town areas, stressing the need to ensure adequate teaching staff in rural schools.
Earlier, Senior Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Niuland, Kitoshi Z Swu, expressed gratitude to the minister and the Education department for supporting the school's upgrade, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening educational opportunities in the Aghunaqa area.
