Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to peace and development in Manipur in a message marking the state’s 55th statehood day.

IMPHAL — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the Centre has worked with the resolve of “Act East, Act Fast” to empower the Northeast, unlock opportunities for progress and fulfil the aspirations of the people, reaffirming the Union government’s commitment to peace and development in Manipur.
In a message to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the occasion of the 55th statehood day of Manipur, Modi said he has always believed in the immense potential of the people of the Northeast and that since 2014 the government has worked to strengthen the region’s development trajectory.
“I have always been a firm believer in the immense potential of the people of our Northeast,” Modi said. “Since 2014, our government has worked with the resolve of ‘Act East, Act Fast,’ to empower the region, unlock opportunities for progress and fulfil the aspirations of the people.”
Recalling his visit to Manipur in September last year, the Prime Minister said he was moved by the affection shown by the people of Churachandpur and Imphal, who had gathered in large numbers despite heavy rain.

In the message, which was shared by Lok Bhavan Manipur on X, Modi said he had reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to stand with the people of Manipur and support efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and sustained progress.
“I reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to stand with the people of Manipur and to support every effort aimed at ensuring lasting peace and sustained progress,” he said, adding that the President’s visit to Imphal and Senapati in December 2025 had also resonated deeply with the people.
Stating that Manipur has witnessed accelerated development across multiple sectors over the past few years, Modi said central assistance to the state has increased substantially since 2014.
He said the Centre is ushering in an infrastructure transformation in the state, including linking Imphal with the national rail network, development of the airport, and construction of highways and rural roads.
“Equal emphasis is being placed on strengthening healthcare and education systems with particular focus on skilling, innovation and women empowerment,” he said.
Meanwhile, the 55th statehood day celebration of Manipur was held at the 1st Manipur Rifles parade ground in Imphal in the presence of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. MLAs, the chief secretary, the security adviser, the director general of police and senior civil and police officials were present on the occasion.
Addressing the celebration, Governor Bhalla said statehood reflects the democratic ideal of governance of the people, for the people and by the people.
“It empowers the people in reaffirming Manipur’s identity, democratic values and the collective responsibility to ensure justice, unity and development for all,” he said.
He said it was the collective duty of the people to foster peace, harmony and mutual respect among communities and to resolve differences through dialogue and democratic means.
He added that the visits of the Prime Minister and the President to the state have reaffirmed the nation’s strong commitment to Manipur’s development, peace and constitutional values.
