Dimapur, June 15 (EMN): A video of a man alleging that a retail outlet at Naharbari in Dimapur was selling rice mixed with “plastic rice” went viral on social media on Tuesday, following which the authorities swung into action to find out the authenticity.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Relo Aye informed Eastern Mirror that with the help of Naharbari Village Council, the police were able to locate the shop from where the video was shot.
Aye said that according to the shop owner, the sacks of grains were brought from Arihant Industries food grain warehouse, which is also located at Naharbari.
The police officer added that in the presence of Extra Assistant Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Seyiekhrietuo Solo, Food and Civil Supply department officials and Naharbari Village Council members, a sample of the alleged “plastic rice” had been taken for testing.
He went on to say that without the sample test result, ‘they cannot say if it is fake or actual food grain’. However, both the shop and the warehouse have been sealed for further investigation.
East police station Dimapur has registered a suo moto cognisance and the case is under investigation.
‘As of now, no one has been arrested,’ the officer said, adding that they have to wait for the sample test result for further enquiry.
