In the backdrop of the recent post advertisement by the Nagaland Public Service Commission for NCS, NPS, and Allied Services Examination, one question that has long been plaguing the minds of many needs to be raised – ‘What has become of the last public service commission examination that was concluded in the month of January 2015? It is now past 6 months since the oral interview for the aspiring candidates for NCS and Allied Services was conducted. What is truly confounding is that when fresh post advertisement is been made, candidates who have already appeared the final oral interviews of the same level competition examination are still waiting for the results. It is understood that the NPSC is not entirely to be blamed for the current impasse caused by some disgruntled candidates being at loggerheads with its decisions, and the inability of the High Court to pass judgment on the matter. However, one must agree that the delay in declaration of interview results is causing tremendous mental and psychological stress to those candidates. A host of questions ‘Is the current impasse going to remain unresolved and forever be kept pending in the high court?; ‘will the results be ever declared?; ‘Is the last public service commission examination going to be scrapped and the excelling candidates denied the fruits of their labour?, ‘If ever the result are made known, is it going to be long after the hair of candidates have grown gray?, etc. plague the minds of the candidates, their parents and the public. The new post advertisements have compounded the anxiety and fears of those waiting for the last interview results. While job advertisements and opportunities, especially by the NPSCC is welcome news for everyone, for those candidates it must be pure mental torture. Many of them however shall have no option but to apply and write the same examination again. It will seem like the monsoon has arrived and preparations are been made for the year’s plantation while still waiting to harvest last year’s crops. And yet still, it won’t also be fair for those waiting for the results to again write the same competition level examination with all the buildup tension and anxiety. When the time comes for writing the examinations, they certainly will not be able to perform as they will be able to in the absence of such tension and stress. Whatever will be the fate of the previous examination and the court’s decision, God only knows. However, the candidates should not be kept in limbo. Under the present circumstances, it is pertinent that the NPSC and concerned authorities give a statement on the status of the previous examination conducted and on the non-declaration of the interview results. The Commission has both the moral obligation and humane responsibility to inform those candidates on the state of things and what is being done to expedite matters. Dr. Z. Venuh Concerned Citizen
