Plantation drive held under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in Mokokchung

MOKOKCHUNG — The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) – Mission Shakti, alongside the district administration of Mokokchung and Forerunners Mokokchung, held a plantation drive on Monday at Shisalen Riju.

Themed “Let’s leaf a legacy: a plantation drive for a greener tomorrow”, this initiative was part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, aiming to honour girls while fostering a greener future.

The event dedicated each tree planted to a girl child, with name tags placed beside the saplings to symbolise growth, hope, and the role of girls in shaping society.

Assistant Commissioner Ajay Moktan, the theme speaker for the occasion, said that the drive marked their commitment to protect both daughters and the planet, urging the creation of a lasting legacy for future generations.

Kato T Aomi, EAC (P) Mokokchung and programme chairperson, highlighted the event as a tangible step towards recognising girls’ contributions and ensuring an environment conducive to their growth.

Sangtsui, EAC (P), emphasised the ownership of the saplings, encouraging participants, including Miss Mokokchung contestants, to champion environmental stewardship and gender equality.

Representatives from Forerunners Mokokchung inspired the youth to uphold the dual legacy of protecting nature and promoting equality. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to nurture the saplings and advocate for a future where every girl thrives.
