Dimapur, July 9 (EMN): Pimla Baptish Church (PBC) celebrated Tuluni festival on July 8 at the village ground with the minister of Agriculture and Co-operation, G Kaito Aye, as the Tuluni father.
Speaking at the programme, Kaito Aye appreciated the cultural dance troupe, comprising mostly of the village elders, for demonstrating the old practices followed by the forefathers. He said such presentations are educative for the younger generation in knowing their roots and the rich culture of the Sumis.
The minister also emphasised on the importance of agricultural practices and encouraged particularly the women folk of the village to make use of government funded schemes and take up agriculture as the main source of income for their livelihood.
Kaito further encouraged the citizens of Pimla village to act as a mediator in bringing peace and harmony in the society and also to maintain a good communal bond with the neighbouring villages and tribes within its jurisdiction.
Other highlights of the programme included presentation of cultural dances namely Kipitimi Aphile Kuwo and Totimi Athi Kuqole by men and women troupes, Amalimi Kughulhu, Ami Kukula and Asu Kimiche- a live presentation on the ancient traditional practices by the forefathers.
The programme was chaired by Livi Swu, while the invocation prayer was said by Ahovi Achumi, pastor of Pimla Baptist Church, and the welcome address by P Dohoi Swu, Head GB. The vote of thanks was delivered by Lughozhe Swu and the benediction was said by Kiyeshi Zhimo, associate pastor women PGBA.

Zhekiye community: Zhekiye village community Dimapur (ZGKD) celebrated Tuluni festival on July 6 at Eralibill, Dimapur, hosted by Er. N Shikaho Zhimomi and family.
The program was chaired by ZGKD chairman Ghuvishe Zhimomi and Hutoka Chishi, while the invocation prayer was pronounced by Ahoshi S Aye, chaplain ZGKD.
In his welcome address, Er. N Shikaho Zhimomi exhorted the members to foster love and harmony within the community for the betterment of the society. He also advocated unity among the members to strengthen the community.
ZGKD former chairman, Kuhoi P Zhimomi, spoke on the significance of Tuluni festival and also distributed leaflets to the congregations. Tuluni folk songs (Lezhole) were presented by a group of fathers led by Visheto Chishi as well as the mothers group led by Hekali A Zhimomi and Mughalito S Zhimomi.
The offertory prayer was said by Kavili Hotoshe Zhimomi, while the vote of thanks was said by ZGKG chairman and the benediction was pronounced by Kasheni Nihoto Ayemi.
The celebration was marked with Akhetsu Kukulo Kukuxu (top spinning competition), Shulupa Kiche (head-hunting spear throwing competition), and Ashi Kumuza (pork fats eating competition).
