IMPHAL, July 24: A young Assam Regiment personnel from Manipur was among the 29 missing personnel in Indian Air Force plane (AN32) carrying 29 personnel disappeared over the Bay of Bengal soon after their take off from Chennai air base for Port Blair in Adaman & Nicobar Islands, on Friday, sources from Churachandpur town said.
The young personal has been identified as H Ginzasiam (23) who is the third son of H Tuakhanlian of Churachandpur district headquarter. Ginzansiam who has a sibling of five, belongs to 15 Assam Regiment.
The report of the incident was conveyed to his family at Dorcas Veng locality under New Lamka area by one his local colleague working in the same Assam Regiment unit after the said plane failed to land at its respective destination till 2 pm on Friday, according to sources here.
He left his hometown (Churachandpur) on July 16 for his new posting at Port Blair, family sources said. Earlier he was posted in Jammu and Kashmir. His mother is said to be from Tamenglong district.
While the India navy has launched search operations for the AN32 transporter, Ginzasiam’s family in Manipur’s hill district await update on the young para commando who was aboard the IAF carrier along with 11 air force personnel,8 civilians(or family members),1 navy,1 coast guard,1 army soldier that lost contact with the ground 280km off the Tamil Nadu coast.
