Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): While asserting that it takes a serious view on the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay against the extension of the ILP to Dimapur, the Nagaland unit of BJP has claimed that the PIL was filed without its knowledge.
According to a press release from the party on Thursday, it had no knowledge about Upadhyay until media reports about his PIL. None from the state’s BJP unit had met him, it stated.
The party cited the address of Governor PB Acharya in the 3rd session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, wherein he had stated that the state government will take legal and administrative steps to streamline the system of issuing ILP and that it will be made applicable to the entire state including Dimapur.
“Following which the state government has already worked out the modalities through the committee and the Home department is in the process of implementing it. While the intent and the decisions by the state government have been actively pursued by the PDA partners, the PIL has come as a surprise to even the entire BJP, Nagaland. This matter has been viewed with utmost seriousness given the BJP’s respect for the demands and the outcry of the citizens of Nagaland and the Naga people,” read the statement.
Given the public outcry, it stated, the party will pursue the matter with the BJP central leadership. “In the meantime, there should be no doubt about the sincerity and the will of the BJP Nagaland Unit in ensuring that the recommendation of the ILP committee is implemented at the earliest,” the statement read further.
