Dimapur, July 27 (EMN): A PIL demanding CBI inquiry has been filed on July 25, 2017 challenging the state of Nagaland in the Kohima Bench of the Guwahati High Court, on issuing of withdrawal authorities to the department of School Education, Social Welfare department and department of Civil Supplies that indicate misappropriation of public funds.
The petitioners ST Yapang Longkumer and Odi Jamir cited RTI replies from the departments that revealed that the School Education department had drawn 248 crores 67 lakhs and 76 thousands within April 2016 and March 2017 for construction of school buildings, SSA and RMSA salaries and payment of scholarships.The Social Welfare department also had a withdrawal of around222 crores 49 lakhs and 48 thousand and 346 within 10 months for clearance of liabilities under wheat and nutrition programme, construction of Park for persons with disabilities in Kohima district, orphanages, children homes, observation and shelter home, purchase of food items under SNP, payments of pensions to beneficiaries and blind persons;
The petition also mentioned of what appeared to be serious anomalies in the department of Food and Civil Supplies amounting to 12 crores 55 lakhs and 21 thousand drawn between April 2016 and March 2017 for printing of ration cards, transportation of handling charges of food grains of additional BBP, AAY rice for beneficiaries.
After detailed perusal of the documents through the PIO’s reply, the petitioners’ have challenged the state of Nagaland stating that the supposed amounts were never utilised judiciously while the amount have been siphoned and pocketed by corrupt officials which calls for a CBI inquiry.
The appeal was heard by Justice S. Serto in the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench and the matter will be listed in another four weeks.
