- DIMAPUR — A pig
feed mill in Pholami village under Phek district, funded by FOCUS-IFAD Project,
Government of Nagaland, was inaugurated on December 18 by Sivi Mor, district
project officer of FOCUS-IFAD, Phek.
- The feed mill construction was initiated by members of Pig
Growers Association Pholami, in collaboration with FOCUS team, as it was
observed that pig being heavy feeders the traditional feeding method is not
economic and sustainable in the long run, an update from FOCUS-IFAD stated.
- The feed mill was envisaged to encourage modern scientific
feeding method as it is more economic, less labour intensive and importantly it
reduces cutting of woods for firewood which directly impact the environment.
- Besides, Phek district has imposed blanket ban on import of
swine from outside the district, indirectly putting pressure on local pork
production with good economic returns.
- It stated that establishment of pig feed mill would provide
regular supply of quality feeds at affordable rate propelling economic progress
and prosperity among the local pig farmers.
- Marketing sheds constructed under Market Access Facility of
FOCUS project in Losami and Chozuba were also inaugurated on the same day.
