Dimapur, Sep. 9 (EMN): The Nagaland unit of the Indian Association of Physiotherapist conducted a seminar recently to educate people about chronic pain besides highlighting exercises, in commemoration of World Physiotherapy Day.
The programme was conducted on September 9 at the 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Battalion establishment at Chumokedima in Dimapur, updates stated.
The organisation issued a press release to the media on Monday informing about the programme.
In the press release, the association stated that around 350 Indian Reserve personnel attended the seminar. The session was presided over by Dr. Avikuonuo Pienyu of the association.
Yangba Konyak, commandant of the 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Battalion addressed the event. The police officer was stated to have talked about the importance and need of physiotherapy. He spoke also about the lack of proper knowledge about the profession, the press release stated.
A short speech was delivered by the association’s state president Dr. Tiatula Longkumer. The press release stated that she highlighted physiotherapy in Nagaland, the treatments that are available and what physiotherapy can do against pain.
The seminar was conducted in two phases. The first phase was led by Dr. Inato Achumi who was said to have ‘stressed on the mechanism of chronic pain,’ how it affects the body and the individual as a whole. He emphasised also the different types of pain, its diagnosis and risk factors associated with chronic pain, the updates informed.
The second phase of the seminar was taken by Dr Livino Achumi. She spoke about the importance of exercise and the benefits of daily exercise.
The programme also conducted a demonstration of exercises, with participation of personnel from the 15th NAP (IR) Mahila, the press release stated.
Temsunochet Changkija, deputy commandant of the 15th NAP (IR), acknowledged the presence of the entire unit, and the members of the association for their efforts. The police officer is stated to have requested future ‘collaboration,’ the press release informed.
World Physiotherapy Day was observed in other areas of Nagaland, the updates stated. Physiotherapists in Kohima are said to have conducted free health check up programmes at various clinics and hospitals, the
updates added.
