Dimapur, June 22 (EMN): Residents of Phuvkiu village celebrated the 6th Phuvkiu Day on June 18 at the village council hall.
Speaking on the occasion, Khiutsikiu, village council chairman, reminded that the village name was changed from ‘Chomi’ to ‘Phuvkiu’ on June 18, 2013, adding that since then the villagers celebrates the day as Phuvkiu Day every year.
He further stated that the village name ‘Phuvkiu’ was named after a fruit bearing tree called ‘Phuvsitiu’ (local dialect). Basing on the village name used by the ancestors and renaming of the village name, he urged the villagers to propagate the use of village name as Phuvkiu and not as Chomi.
Kamkiu, pastor of Phuvkiu Baptist Church (PBC), in his message, stressed on the importance of knowing one’s origin and meaning taking into consideration of its ancestral oral history as Nagas has no written history. He added that one need to retain his/ her history to preserve one’s identity.
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation prayer by Rupewmew, Catechist CKS, while Lensi David, VDB secretary, chaired the programme and the welcome address was delivered by Konkhiukiu, 2nd GB. The vote of thanks was delivered by Kiusumew, Head GB, and concluded with a mass prayer.
