PS Khopu hailing from Phuba village emerged as champion of Poumai Thounii festival wrestling competition, the festival of new year or festival of dawn celebrated under the theme ‘our culture is our identity’ held at Senapati public ground on the night of January 5. Altogether 16 strong wrestlers from three regions of Poumai tribe competed for the title.
Khopu walked home richer with a whopping sum of Rs. 1, 00,000 and certificate while Sh Rolland of Tungam village and H John of Saranamai village were declared second and third and were awarded with cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 30,000. S Veinii from Tungjoy village was declared as fourth placed.Gracing the wrestling competition as the chief guest, Chairman ADC Senapati ML Markson urged the gathering to set good example to its neighbors by being an agent of unity in the community. At the same time he also appealed the politicians to play quality politics for the benefit of the masses.
Earlier the wrestling event was led by SP Raile, special presentations byRahbo and Maiden, invocation offered by Rev DL Sapuni.
