Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has accused the home commissioner of Nagaland, who also holds the additional charge of commissioner and secretary of Health and Family Welfare, of making the ‘shameless comment’ of: “It is not an easy to send any doctor to Longleng in such environment”.
The PSC issued a statement on Tuesday stating ‘strong protest’ against the official. “The Phom Students’ Conference approached the commissioner and secretary on 10th April, 2017 at his office chamber to update on the development of our final representation which was submitted on 24th March 2017 giving 15 days deadline which was expired on 9th April, 2017. “Even after expiration of the deadline, the government and the department had not responded or communicated the PSC in any form, however the conference with a sound intention and in order to avoid any confrontation with the government had approached the commissioner and secretary,” it stated.
However, the response and the behaviour of the commissioner and secretary towards the PSC were pathetic and unbecoming, it stated. “The commissioner and secretary had shamelessly made a comment, ‘It is not an easy to send any doctor to Longleng in such environment’ and severely questioned for giving 15 days deadline.
“Therefore, the Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) seeks the clarification from the responsible officer in written on the above comment and the same should reach to the office of the Phom Students Conference (PSC) within 24 hours starting from 00:00 hour 12 April, 2017. Failing to respond in a given time will lead PSC to initiate strict action,” it warned.
It also served a 7-day ‘open ultimatum’ to the state government to fulfil the 7-point demands mentioned in its final representation submitted to commissioner and secretary on March 24 last.
Following are the demands of the PSC:
1. Separate transformer to run the machineries for 24x7 since most of the machineries /equipments are still lying unused due to lack of electricity supply.
2. Immediate appointment of regular general duty medical officer (GDMO).
3. Immediate appointment of full-fledged medical superintendent at district hospital Longleng since the present MS is found to be attached at directorate.
4. Construction of separate building for diagnostic centre with well instalment facilities of X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan and laboratory services.
5. Posting of nursing superintendent and assistant nursing superintendent.
6. Instalment of blood storage unit.
7. At present the district hospital, Longleng is running only under the supervision of 4 (four) doctors which is causing numerous inconveniences to the general public due to insufficient manpower. Thus, the PSC demand immediate appointment of medicine specialist, paediatric and surgeon in the district hospital, Longleng.
