DIMAPUR — The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has sounded alarm over the abysmal state of governance in Longleng district, following a recent inspection revealing widespread absenteeism and dysfunction in government offices.

“The student body found that only 4% of the offices were fully staffed and functioning, with many departments either locked during working hours or operating with minimal staff presence,” the PSC stated in a press release issued on Thursday.

Several offices showed no signs of official activity, and in many cases, officers-in-charge were absent without official explanation, it added.

The student body maintained that disruptions in basic public services due to absenteeism is fuelling growing dissatisfaction among citizens and undermining development efforts in the region.

Calling for swift intervention, the PSC urged the district administration and the state government to roll out immediate corrective measures. “These include active monitoring, stronger accountability systems, and strict action against repeat absentee officials,” it stated.
