- DIMAPUR — The
Phom Language Promotion and Translation Cell at Yingli College in Longleng town
was launched by the deputy commissioner (DC) of Longleng, W Manpai Phom, on
March 6.
- Speaking at the launch programme, the DC emphasised on the
importance of language and its unifying factor. He encouraged the students to
carry forward the aims and objectives of the cell and to leave a legacy of
excellence for the upcoming generations.
- Delivering the keynote address, the college’s principal, Dr.
T. Temsu Imti, spoke on the implementation of regional languages in educational
institutions as per NEP 2020. He encouraged the use of common Phom dialect
among students and preservation of mother tongue.
- He added that Phom Language Promotion and Translation Cell
was launched with the hope that it would lead to introduction of Phom language
in the college as a subject.
- In his short speech, president of Phom People’s Council
(PPC), YB Angam, expressed gratitude for establishing the cell and also
commented on the progress of the college, which was established in 1992. He
encouraged the students to promote and propagate their mother tongue.
- The programme was chaired by assistant professor of English,
Manngai H Phom, while the college’s vice principal, Dr. B Henshet Phom,
delivered the vote of thanks.
