DIMAPUR — A World War I memorial monolith was
inaugurated during the 63rd Phiro Village Students' Union Conference and first
youth conclave, held on December 27 and 28 at Wozhü Panka, Phiro village.
The two-day event marked a historic and vibrant gathering,
blending the commemoration of the past with a vision for the future, stated an
update.
On day one, the inauguration of the World War I memorial
monolith took place, honouring the 28 individuals from Phiro Village who went
to France in 1917 and returned in 1918 as part of the 21st Naga Labour Corps
during WWI.
Zanbemo Lotha, retired additional director of police,
unveiled the monolith, preceded by a prayer dedication from Rev. Thungjanshio
Odyuo, pastor of Phiro Baptist Church. The monolith was sponsored by WH Patton,
retired additional drugs controller.
Khyolamo Tungoe, PVSU president, welcomed the gathering,
emphasising the significance of the occasion. Wonchio Odyuo, additional
secretary of the Finance department, attended the event as the chief guest. A
prayer of blessing for the students was led by Rev. A Rapvuo Odyuo, home
evangelist of Phiro Baptist Church.
The day also celebrated excellence with the felicitation of
ten achievers from various fields during 2024. The "Late Pandit Lisow
Excellence Award" was conferred on two outstanding students.
The competitions, which included painting, essay writing,
and extempore speech, saw enthusiastic participation. The evening concluded
with a fellowship programme hosted by PVSU, with representatives from the Phiro
Village Youth Organisation (PVYO), Wokha Town Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (WTPPS),
Kohima Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (KPPS), and Dimapur Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm
(DPPS) in attendance.
On day two, the first-ever youth conclave was attended by
youth organisations from Phiro (PVYO), Wokha (WTPPS), Kohima (KPPS), and
Dimapur (DPPS).
Theme speaker Dr. Mhabemo Ovung, a dermatologist at Zion
Hospital, spoke on "Reigniting the flame," encouraging the youth to
embrace their potential and become responsible citizens who contribute
meaningfully to society.
Workshops providing practical insights on vital topics were
conducted by three resource persons: "Entrepreneurship" by Lanthamo
Tsopoe (The Bamboo Shoot Restaurant), "Exam prospects" by BR Tungoe,
co-founder of The Aspire Academy, and "Awareness on mental health" by
Nzanrhoni Patton, research scholar at Royal Global University, Guwahati.
A prayer of blessing for the youth was led by Rev.
Thungjanshio Odyuo, pastor of Phiro Baptist Church. Adding a touch of
tradition, competitions in indigenous games were also held.
The two-day event concluded with a musical night, featuring
performances by Lapla Tungoe (Project Anonymous Band, vocalist), Abigail Odyuo
(proprietor of Shofar Music Academy), Lonachen Patton (singer and songwriter),
Nzanmongi Ovung (singer and songwriter), Ajanro Odyuo, Lopeno Odyuo, and
Chonchibeni Odyuo.
