Dimapur, July 7: Awareness and sensitization program on Anti-tobacco for shopkeepers and Hotel Owners of Phek was conducted today at DPDB hall, Phek.
The resource person was Dr. Reyosalü Lase Vizo District Nodal Officer (NTCP) Phek.
The program on Anti-tobacco was conducted for shopkeepers so as to create awareness on the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, (COTPA) 2003 and the penalty they have to pay under this act who ever violate the rules.
Under the COTPA Act the shopkeepers were further imparted awareness that sale of tobacco products to and by minors and sale of tobacco and tobacco products within 100 yards of educational Institutions is ban and requested them to comply with the COTPA Act.
Dr. Reyosalü also sensitized the participants on the harmful effects of tobacco which is a risk factor for six of the leading causes of death in the world. She further sensitized the shopkeepers on the harmful ingredients found in tobacco and added that tobacco contains more than 7000 chemicals several of which can cause Cancer and are dangerous to health.
At the program the resource person requested the shopkeepers and hotel owners to put up the signages on Anti-tobacco.
With the awareness program for shopkeepers conducted the District Enforcement Squad will be implementing the act.
Discussion hour was also conducted during which many of the shopkeepers doubts and queries have been clarified and enlighten by the resource person. Leaflets on Anti-tobacco has been distributed to all the participants. Altogether 70 shopkeepers and Police personals who will be in the enforcement Squad have attended the program.
Earlier, the program was chaired by Tiayanger Jamir EAC, Phek and vote of thanks was pronounced by Zachive Rhakho President, Phek Town Chamber of Commerce.
