Phek Police arrested a man from Chesezu village under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for alleged assault of a minor girl.

KOHIMA — Phek Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against a man under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for alleged sexual assault of a minor girl earlier this week.
The accused has been identified as Zavepra Nyekha of Chesezu village in Phek district and is currently under judicial custody.
According to police, the incident occurred on January 19, and the accused was arrested on the same day from his residence and brought to Phek police station.
Investigation is underway, with police stating that due process is being followed to ensure a free and fair investigation.
The minor victim is currently receiving counselling and necessary care and protection, police said.

Meanwhile, in an update received on Friday, the Tetseo clan of Khulazu Basa village strongly condemned the incident.
“The nature of this crime is not only heinous but also a serious violation of human dignity and the rule of law, demanding the highest level of administrative and legal response,” the clan stated.
Considering the vulnerability of the victim and the seriousness of the offence, the clan urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that the case is investigated with utmost priority, sensitivity and transparency.
It further urged that the strictest action be initiated against the accused “without any delay or undue influence”.
The clan also called for measures to ensure the immediate safety, protection, and medical as well as psychological support of the minor, prevent any attempt at intimidation or tampering with evidence, and ensure accountability of all officials involved in handling the case.
