Kohima, Sep. 8 (EMN): Ralu Keyho won the Phek online debate competition on Tuesday. The winner spoke for the motion on the topic ‘Covid-19: A bane to humanity’.
The virtual debate competition was organised by the district administration and DLCW- Mahila Shakti Kendra (Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao-BBBP), Phek, in collaboration with the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) on the occasion of International Literacy Day on September 8.
The competition was organised to create a platform for young people to share their thoughts on the present pandemic issue and was open to all the indigenous inhabitants of Phek district from the age group of 18-30 years.
After the preliminary round, where the participants have submitted a short essay on the merits and demerits of the topic, the top eight participants were selected to debate on Tuesday.
Speakers from both benches equally argued on the topic by pointing to the issues and problems pertaining to the pandemic that had hit hard the economy, job sectors, industries, which in turn, affected the people across the world among other pertaining issues.
Speakers presented how it had awakened the health sectors with challenges and its mitigation, re-strengthening the health sector and its services, education and various other adaptations of situations in tapping the potentials.
Keyho won a cash prize of INR 5000 along with a certificate, while the first runners-up Adulu Kapu pocketed INR 3000 along with a certificate and the second runners-up Rose Mary Mero won a cash prize of INR 2000, along with a certificate. A consolation prize was presented to Chiete Tsuha.
