Dimapur, May 12 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world, Trained Nurses Association of India Phek unit observed the International Nurses Day under the theme “Nurses a voice to lead - Health is a human right,” on May 12 in the conference hall of District Hospital Phek. Sharing significance of the day, Liasou Shupao said International Nurse Day is observed on May 12 every year to celebrate the birth anniversary of a nursing founder, Florence Nightingale. The day aims to increase public awareness of nursing and nurses’ contributions towards health care.
Speaking on the theme of the day, general secretary of the unit, Velulu Vasa said that nurse is a challenging profession. Nurses can make a difference by transforming health care and ensuring their voices are heard in planning and health policy making decisions, he said.
Complimenting nurses on the day, senior specialist, Dr. Wethselo Tsuhah appreciated their noble services and sacrifices.
He said beyond medicine and great surgeries, a caring and compassionate nurse can bring profound effect and lasting memories in the healing of a person.
“When nursing is pursued as a God given calling, there will be competence, commitment and compassion in caring and inspiring stories will happen at bedsides in the hospital,” he added.
Special prayer for the nurses was offered by Dr. Ngopelo while Vepothilu and friends enthralled the gathering with song “We are women”. The program concluded with nurses anthem and mass prayer.
