DIMAPUR — The
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek
(ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema), under ICAR-Agricultural Technology
Application Research Institute (ATARI) Zone VII, Umiam, hosted the "Kisan
Samman Samaroh" along with the live webcast of the release of the 19th
installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi on Monday.
According to an update, the event focused on educating
farmers about sustainable agricultural practices and various government
initiatives aimed at their welfare.
In his speech, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, senior scientist and
head, KVK Phek, highlighted the importance of various central government
schemes supporting agricultural growth and rural development. He emphasised how
such initiatives are enabling farmers to increase productivity, adopt modern
techniques, and achieve financial stability.
Following the inaugural session, attendees participated in
an exhibition organised specifically for farmers, showcasing various innovative
agricultural technologies. One of the key attractions was the agricultural
drone demonstration, led by Nukusa T Vadeo, STO.
The demonstration highlighted how drone technology can be
leveraged for precision farming, pesticide application, and efficient land
surveying, thereby enhancing productivity in remote agricultural landscapes.
Dr. T Esther Longkumer, CTO, Soil Science, emphasised the
significance of soil testing and vermicomposting for sustainable soil health.
Keniseto Chucha, farm manager, conducted a training session on mushroom
production and scientific cultivation techniques, while Manjunath KS, SMS
(Horticulture), discussed protected cultivation schemes aimed at improving crop
yield and sustainability.
Dr. Harini KR, SMS (Animal Science), provided insights on
scientific pig farming, focusing on breeding and nutrition to enhance
productivity.
A key highlight of the event was the live webcast of the
release of the 19th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Under this
scheme, eligible farmers receive direct financial assistance, ensuring economic
support for their agricultural activities.
A felicitation ceremony was also held to honour three
self-help groups (SHGs)—Khasuho SHG (Thipuzu village), Veto SHG (Thipuzu
village), and Phuzho Farmer Group (Upper Khomi village)—along with one
individual farmer, Muhuvelu Hesuh from Porba village, for their contributions
to agriculture and livestock management.
