
Dimapur, Dec. 18 (EMN): A district level review meeting on Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) and adolescent health was in the office of the chief medical officer (CMO) of Phek on December 17.
An update from the CMO’s office stated that the performance on adolescent friendly health clinics and weekly iron folic supplement were reviewed during the meeting. At present, Phek has four adolescent friendly health clinics (AFHC) located at District Hospital, CHC Pfutsero, Chozuba and Meluri.
AFHC provides services such as treatment for common ailments in adolescent age groups, counseling and referral services, while under the weekly iron folic supplement (WIFS) programme, iron tablets are provided to adolescent girls and boys enrolled in government schools and Anganwadi centres.
The objective of the programme was to reduce the prevalence and severity of nutritional anaemia in the adolescent population. In addition, deworming with Albendazole is done bi- annually for control of worm infestation, the report added.
Under the RBSK programme, a team of medical doctors and nurses visited schools and Anganwadi centres for screening of anemia, early detection of congenital deformities and common diseases in adolescents.
The meeting was attended by doctors from AFHC, vocational trainers from Government Higher Secondary School, Phek, and Anganwadi workers from Phek Sadar.
