Phek Government College hosts district-level youth parliament and debate competition as part of Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme.

DIMAPUR — As part of Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme, the NSS unit and IQAC of Phek Government College, in collaboration with the department of Youth Resources and Sports, conducted a district-level youth parliament and debate competition on August 6 at the college premises.
Speaking at the event, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Phek, Rhosietho Ngouri, expressed happiness to be part of the event and engage with young minds. He reminded that youth are equal stakeholders in the journey towards making India a developed nation by 2047.

He, therefore, urged the students to drive innovation and underscored that discipline is the foundation for achieving their aspirations.
In her welcome address, the college’s vice principal, Shepalu Suyie, termed that event as a celebration of ideas and democratic engagement. She emphasised the critical role of youth in shaping the nation’s future and encouraged the students to use the platform to express, challenge and explore new perspectives.
Also speaking on the occasion, the youth resource officer of Phek, Chubarenla Longchari, described youth as change-makers. She highlighted that the Yuva Connect Programme offers opportunities for young people to develop their skills and urged them to be agents of change.
The debate competition was held on the topic "Emergency period in India was justified and necessary," wherein Shetsolu Keyho and Kozo Venuh were declared the best debaters.
The judges were Dr. Levinu Sakhrie, assistant professor of Political Science; Dr. Shurhonuo Tsurho, assistant professor of English; and Neiwe Mero, assistant professor of Economics.
A folk tune was performed by students led by Vezholu Teseo and Mutsikulu Vero.
