Kohima, Feb. 27 (EMN): With 199 polling stations under Phek district, the district saw a turnout of about 80% which went to poll on February 27.
Phek district, which has five assembly seats, saw a tight contest comprising five NPF candidates, four NDPP candidates, one BJP, three Congress, three NPP and one independent.
In 2013, NPF swept the state assembly election by winning in all the five constituencies. The candidates included Chotisuh Sazo from Chazouba AC, Kuzholuzo Nienu from Phek AC, Yitachu from Meluri AC, Neiba Kronu from Pfutsero AC, and Deo Nukhu from Chizami AC. However, this time, Kronu is contesting on NDPP ticket while Nukhu had joined NPP.
On the polling day, Eastern Mirror randomly interacted with voters from different constituencies under the district to get their views.
One voter who preferred to be named as DK and voted for NPF candidate for Phek AC claimed that the candidate always delivered and worked for the people, especially for the Chakhesang community. “I believe that we are going to see a great transformation in the next five years and as a layman view with drain economy of the state, he (Nienu) is doing the best he can, so I have hope and belief in him,” says DK.
Another voter, VN expressed that NPF candidate has the aspirations to serve the Naga people. He was optimistic that NPF government would bring about difference to the society.
In 16th Pfutsero AC seat with a total of 20596 voters, (9960 male, 10636 female), the election witnessed the contest between the four candidates i.e. Thenucho Tunyi of NPF, Neiba Kronu of NDPP, Kewekhape Therie of INC and Vivolie Kezo of NPP.
SK, who voted for NPP candidate from Pfutsero, said the candidate speeches had motivated him to vote for NPP candidate. He was of the opinion that fresh face would bring about new ideas for the development of the constituency.
In Chizami, five candidates namely Kezhienyi Khalo from NPF, Kevechutso Doulo from BJP, Kewepelo Tsuhah from INC, Deo Nukhu from NPP, and Rekha Rose as Independent candidate are in fray.
In Meluri, the contest is between Yitachu from NPF, Nyusietho Nyuthe from NDPP, and M Hopeson Snock from NPP.
