Dimapur, October 6: Phek district observed the Right to Information (RTI) week beginning on October 6 in the DPDB conference hall with the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Murohu Chotso, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest stressed on equality guaranteed to every citizen under the Constitution of India. He said everyone has equal right to get information under RTI by filing an FIR to all government organisations/ departments. He explained on how to apply and file an RTI in order to know about the working system of the government. He, however, cautioned that one should not take RTI in the negative sense for self aggrandisement or blame others but to take it in the right perspective for betterment of the society as well as for good governance. He called upon the participants to make use of RTI saying it is an opportunity to safe guard our rights.
He said RTI application should be used for transparency and accountability in all the government functionaries.
SDO (Irrigation) Phek, Er. Pfutsulo was the resource person, while the function was chaired by Vekusheyi Rhakho, SDO (Civil) Phek. Officiating Office Superintendent, Thupuchiyi Nienu, pronounced invocation prayer and DBs of DC office presented special song.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Phek Area Mothers’ Association, Phek Area Public Organisation, Tizu Area Public Organisation, Phek Town Chakhesang Students’ Union, political parties and all HoDs of Phek district, chairman of all colonies and staff of Deputy Commissioner’s office.
