Members of the Phek District Planning & Development Board met in the DPDB Conference Hall of Phek town on May 12. The meeting was chaired by deputy commissioner and vice chairman of the DPDB of Phek, Murohu Chotso. The chairman welcomed the board members, which was followed by self-introduction of new members. The chairman reviewed the meeting of the last meeting and highlighted recommendations to the government as impartial. He urged the members to clarify to the public as and when required to avoid misunderstandings. He also reviewed the last year’s DPDB meetings held in various locations in all constituencies under Phek district to facilitate every corner of the district.
A proposal to upgrade Christian Model School of Thipuzu from primary to elementary school, and sanction of grant-in-aid presented by the sub divisional education officer of Chozuba was deliberated. The matter was recommended to the government for necessary actions.
The meeting also deliberated the representation submitted by the president of Phokhungri Public Organization (PPO) regarding absence of telecommunications or any other network in an around Phokhungri area and seeking permission to use cordless FM phones.
The board also discussed and decided to approach the departments in concern to erect mobile / telephone towers in Zhipu and Phokhungri areas of the district.
The district’s board has also decided to designate Runguzou Nasa and Laruri village as ‘Pottery village’.
The educational institutions in Phek town were also discussed as there was only one higher secondary school currently for the headquarters. The principal of the government higher secondary school of Phek highlighted the enrollment capacity of the institution. The school’s authorities expressed regret for being unable to around 450 successful candidates who sought admission after passing the recent High School Leaving Certificate Board examinations. The board has recommended upgrade of the government high school of Phek town to higher secondary ‘on emergency basis’. As entrusted by the board in the previous DPDB meeting, the district employment officer gave a power point presentation about the activities of the department. The department of Art & Culture has also been entrusted to present a report of the department’s activities in the next DPDB meeting.
