DIMAPUR, AUGUST 10: The monthly meeting of the Phek District Planning & Development Board for August was held on August 9 in Phek town. The vice chairman of the board, also the deputy commissioner of Phek, Murohu Chotso presided over the meeting.
The minister for School Education, Yitachu, also addressed the meeting. In his speech, the minister said that the society was ‘lacking in truth and called upon all to change our mind set and retrospect ourselves in the long run where truth shall prevail.’
On more practical matters, Yitachu said that ‘collection of data and views of the people’ was important to making decisions “in the right direction.” The politician also pointed out that government jobs have ‘reached saturation point in the state and we need to think about self-sustenance.’
He also called upon the government ‘officers holding offices’ to be ‘serious’ in their work.
‘We need to change our mindset in the field of education for betterment of our society,’ he said and asked the teaching community ‘to be more realistic and more practical.’ Local Area Development Funds for the current year was also finalized during the meeting.
A request to register an organization, the ‘Gorkha Union of Meluri Sub-division,’ was approved by the board for submission to the government for necessary action.
Noklak
The Sub-division Planning and Development Board of Noklak also met on August 5. The chairman of the board, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, K MhathungTsanglao, presided over the meeting.
The members of the board reviewed previous points of discussions and deliberated on the agenda for the establishment of a new government primary school at Sanglao village under Thonoknyu sub-division. The matter was discussed following which the board decided to forward the matter to the department in concern for further necessary action.
Also, a requisition for traffic personnel to man the junction at Noklak town submitted by the town sector union was approved to be forwarded to the police authorities of Tuensang for consideration. Increase in traffic and resulting accidents in the town due to unregulated traffic had begun to pose a problem, the board is said to have agreed.
Also, a proposal for construction of a town hall at Noklak as submitted by the Khiamniungan Tribal Council was approved to be forwarded to the department in concern for action. The existing town hall is old and unfit for use, it was reported. The LADP for 2016-17 schemes in respect of the 56th and the 57th assembly constituencies was unanimously approved to be forwarded to the government for consideration.
Reports about departmental activities were presented before the board by officials of the Power division of Noklak and Thonoknyu sub-division.
The meeting also discussed ‘work distribution’ for various departments for the forthcoming independence celebrations at Noklak.
