Dimapur, July 13 (EMN): PHED Urban Division, Dimapur, under the aegis of WSSO PHED conducted a training on “Water quality monitoring & surveillance” for WATSAN Committee members on July 13 at Urban Division Office.
The objective of the IEC campaign and sanitation programme was delivered by Er. P Khetoi Sema, Executive Engineer PHED Urban Division.
In his keynote address, he spoke on the goal of Swachh Bharat Mission (G) which aims to declare Open Defecation Free (ODF) in all the states of India by 2019. He emphasised the WATSAN Committee members on the need to construct latrine in all households and also keeping the environment and village clean.

Er. Ichirang Zeliang, SDO (PHED), Medziphema, spoke on the topic ‘Health and Sanitation.” He also spoke on the implementation of low-cost sanitation system, greater household involvement, proper management of solid and liquid waste, health hazards due to insanitary conditions, rural drainage systems with the involvement of NGOs and local group and WATSAN Committee in village sanitation programme.
Roland Kikon, Chemist, speaking on the topic “Water quality monitoring and surveillance,” emphasised on the need of water sources to be tested and monitored periodically so as to check the quality of drinking water.
The programme was chaired by Er. Benjongtoshi, SDO (PHED), Chumukedima, and attended by WATSAN Committee members from villages under Urban Division, Dimapur.
