Dimapur, July 2: PHED, Phek division, has conducted workshop on open defecation free and sanitation along with PRA exercise from June 22 to 30. Five open defecation free villages under Phek division participated for the workshop on open defecation free and sanitation.
T Imtiakum, Executive Engineer PHED, Phek, highlighted on the importance of open defecation free and sanitation. Stating that open defecation free could lead to good sanitation and healthy life, he encouraged the participants to be more vigilant in keeping their villages free from open defecation and urged the village representatives to become an ambassador of their own village in regard to cleanliness and healthy village. Virhelie, consultant of Sanitation & hygiene, PHED Phek, who was the resource person, spoke on the advantages of living in open defecation free environment and asked the participants to spread the message when they go back to their respective villages. The participating villages were asked to be an example for the neighboring villages so that more open defecation free villages would come up in the near future.
Sanitation status and steps to be taken for improvement at respective villages was also discussed along with the official of PHED Phek where respective villages put forward their ideas in order to improve sanitation in the village.
Meanwhile, PRA exercise was also conducted in which 70 villages under Phek division participated. During the exercise, Virhelie, consultant of Sanitation & Hygiene, spoke on good sanitation and hygiene, while Kethonu Theyo, Chemist, demonstrated on the water quality testing to the participants.
Representatives from WATSAN committee members, village leaders, women hoho and youth organisations participated in the programme.
