Phangnon Konyak, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Nagaland, has called
for strengthening sports infrastructure in the state.
- According to a press statement issued by the press secretary
to the MP, during the March 28 Parliament session, Phangnon raised a special
mention urging the central government to increase investment in and strengthen
the sports infrastructure in Nagaland.
- Highlighting the immense potential of youth in the state,
Phangnon emphasised the need for upgraded facilities, modern training centres,
and better resources to nurture sporting talent. She stressed that, despite the
growing enthusiasm for sports, the lack of adequate infrastructure continues to
be a major challenge for athletes from Nagaland.
- “In recent years, our youth have demonstrated remarkable
talent and determination in various sporting disciplines. However, the absence
of proper infrastructure limits their opportunities to compete at the national
and international levels. It is imperative that we bridge this gap by enhancing
existing facilities and creating new avenues for sports development in the
state,” she stated.
- She urged the government to allocate necessary funds and
formulate a comprehensive plan to support aspiring sportspersons from Nagaland,
ensuring they receive quality training and exposure.
