Dimapur, Jan 19: A total of 3092 women under the aegis of Pfutsero Town Mothers’ Association (PTMA) took out a protest rally in Pfutsero town on January 19 against the alleged rape of a physically challenged minor girl. The rallyists submitted a memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pfutsero, demanding befitting punishment to the culprit.
The protest rally was organised by PTMA against the alleged rape committed by one Rüvütou Medeo, son of late Vesoyi Medeo and resident of Rukizu Colony in Pfutsero, on a physically challenged 13 year old girl on January 14. The diabolical act was committed at her residence.
While strongly condemning the act, PTMA said rape is the most humiliating and shameful crime as it takes away the modesty, honour and integrity of a woman. Besides the physical aspects, it said the mental trauma will haunt her to her grave.
The rallyists also held meeting at town centre, which was led by Mrs. Viekope-ü Kenye. Mrs. Zhonelü Tunyi narrated the incident, while short speeches were delivered by Mrs. Vechülo-ü Kanuo, Executive Director of Chakhesang Women Walfare Society; Yeihkhüshü Tureng, former chairman of Pfutsero town; Punürü Rose, Head GB; and Hüsünü Kotso, president of Charity Society, Phusachodumi, Pfutsero town.
Later, PTMA submitted a memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pfutsero, condemning the gruesome crime in the strongest term and demanded befitting punishment to the culprit according to the law of the land under the most stringent clauses.
The memorandum was signed by Mrs. Kere-ü Pradia, president PTMA; Mrs. Viekope-ü Kenye, vice president PTMA; Mrs. Shevohülü Tetseo, vice president PTMA; Mrs. Ngunyi-ü Medo, advisor PTMA; and Mrs. Zhonelü Tunyi, advisor PTMA.
